Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service

Responsible to:

Resident/Intern in orthopaedic surgery

Primary Function:

Patient care and research in the sports medicine and shoulder surgery service

Objective:

To gain advanced surgical training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery and basic and/or clinical research in the speciality of sports and shoulder.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To provide all aspects of medical care to patients being treated by the sports medicine and shoulder surgery service on St George Hospital campus (St. George Hospital, St. George Private Hospital, Orthopaedic Research Institute and associated facilities) in a supervised fashion. This includes outpatient and inpatient care and operating theatre responsibilities.
  2. To be actively involved with the educational programme of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This includes postgraduate, undergraduate, nursing and GP education.To be actively involved with the educational programme of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.   3. To carry out research at the Orthopaedic Research Institute and within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  4. To provide medical cover for various sports teams during their matches and training sessions.
  5. On call commitment and any other responsibilities as decided by the Director of Orthopaedic Surgery from time to time. Currently no on call commitments.
  6. Involvement with quality assurance activities of the department.
